“Smash” actress and Broadway star Megan Hilty is mourning the loss of her family members, including her pregnant sister, who were passengers in a fatal seaplane crash in Washington state.
On Tuesday, the US Coast Guard released the names of all passengers and crew who were aboard a seaplane that crashed in Puget Sound on Sunday. Hilty’s sister, Lauren Hilty, brother-in-law Ross Mickel and niece Remy Mickel, who is listed as a minor, were among the 10 victims.
Only one body was recovered from the water on Sunday and taken to a local medical examiner, but has yet to be positively identified, the USCG said Tuesday. The National Transportation Safety Board launched an investigation into the incident.
“The Coast Guard offers its deepest condolences to those who lost a loved one in this tragedy,” said the USCG Cmdr. Xochitl Castañeda. United States Coast Guard Pacific Northwest announced on monday that “it has suspended the active search for the remaining nine disappeared persons.”
“We are deeply saddened and beyond devastated by the loss of our beloved Ross Mickel, Lauren Hilty, Remy and their unborn baby, Luca,” the Mickel and Hilty families said in a statement. “Our collective pain is unimaginable. They were a bright and shining light in the lives of all who knew them. Although his time with us was too short, we will carry on his legacy.”
Hilty, a Tony-nominated Broadway star also known for her role as Ivy Lynn on the NBC musical television series “Smash,” has yet to publicly address the deaths of her family members. Representatives for the actor did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Times on Tuesday.
